Mall of America
Opened in 1992 and located in Bloomington, a suburb of the Twin Cities (MN), the Mall of America (also MOA or MoA) was the largest shopping mall destination in the United States at the time. The title of largest deserves clarification since it is not currently the largest in terms of retail area. Several malls surpass the Mall of America by various measures but none enjoys the same notoriety.
The Mall of America cost $650 million to build and contributes more than $1.8 billion annually in economic impact activity to the state of Minnesota. The mall has over 50 restaurants and more than 520 stores.
